There is no free commercial version of Ansys. If you search "free Ansys software," most of what ranks is download tutorials for the student build, often with stale numbers, and none of it answers the question a founder is actually asking: how do I legitimately run real Ansys on my company's problem without paying list price on day one? The free student downloads are genuinely capable learning builds: the main Ansys Student bundle (Mechanical, Fluent, CFX, Discovery, SpaceClaim and more), Electronics Desktop Student (HFSS, Maxwell, Q3D, Icepak), LS-DYNA Student, and SCADE Student. Two fences to understand:

Several products have public free trials on ansys.com: Fluent (30 days, full-featured, including the GPU solver), Discovery (one 30-day trial per user), plus SpaceClaim, Sherlock, SCADE, and others. Trials are great first tastes — real software, no negotiation. Their limits are practical rather than legal: 30 days is enough to learn the interface and run a known example; it's rarely enough to prove out an unfamiliar multiphysics workflow on your own design while learning the tool. The path the download-tutorial articles never mention: Ansys and its authorized channel partners grant short-term evaluation licenses to qualified commercial prospects — typically at no cost, typically full-capability, scoped in a short conversation about what you need to prove. It's the difference between "I tried the trial" and "we validated our workflow on our own geometry before spending anything." While you sort out software access, the learning layer is genuinely free: Ansys Innovation Courses (structured physics + simulation courses with videos and quizzes), the academic learning resources hub, and the official Ansys Learning channel on YouTube. A founder can be genuinely dangerous in Fluent or HFSS before ever holding a license.
